Caplan's Week 10 Insider Fantasy Notebook

HOU-CLE

Weather note: This could be another bad weather game for the Browns at home, but the rain is expected to cease before kickoff. However, the wind is expected to be 28-33 mph through the 3 hours. I'm sure you saw how bad the wind impacted passing in Week 8 vs. Raiders.

Texans: The team surprisingly placed starting RB David Johnson (concussion) on IR. This means the earliest he can return by rule is in Week 13 vs. Colts. Veteran RB Duke Johnson will take over the starting job for now and the team signed RB C.J. Prosise off their practice squad to provide depth at the position.

Browns: With RB Nick Chubb (grade-2 MCL) activated off IR, the team will go back to their two-back system and will try to limit the drop-backs for QB Baker Mayfield. That was the plan from day one once this new staff started training camp. Mayfield has only attempted 30 passes or more in 3 games this season. Now that starting TE Austin Hooper (appendix) has been cleared to play, his role in the passing game could continue to grow. A few games before his surgery, his role as the "Y" TE changed to "F", which is the pass-catching role at the position. Y is the inline role.

JAX-GB

Weather note: It's scheduled to be a windy day in Green Bay (24-23 mph for the 3 hours), but as we saw in the last windy game there, Aaron Rodgers still threw for 3 TDs 2 weeks ago against the Vikings. However, how rookie QB Jake Luton can handle throwing into the wind remains to be seen.

Jaguars: Not only will Luton be making his first road start today, he'll be doing it without starting C Brandon Linder (back), who was downgraded from questionable to out on Saturday. He'll get a break, however, as the Packers are expected to be without starting CB Jaire Alexander (concussion, hand-doubtful) and Kevin King (quadriceps-questionable), their other starting CB, continues to be limited by his injury. King has not played since the team returned from their Week 4 bye.

PHI-NYG

Weather note: It appears that the rain should hold off until at least the 2nd half and the wind is a manageable 16-17 mph. And it's not as though both QBs haven't thrown into the wind before.

Eagles: I'm not expecting RB Miles Sanders (knee) to be limited much, if at all, by his injury today and I'm told he had a good week of practice. I've gotten a lot of questions about veteran WR Alshon Jeffery's role this week and since he's going to play today, it's probably a good time to address it. 2nd-year WR Travis Fulgham will be their full-time "X" WR. That much is not in question. The likelihood for Jeffery is that he'll be the backup to Fulgham for the rest of the way. 2nd-year WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside held that role at the start of the season, but he has been demoted to mostly special teams.

Giants: Veteran WR Devonta Freeman (ankle), who was placed on IR this week, will miss at least 3 games (not 3 weeks) and the earliest he can return by rule is for their Week 14 game vs. Cardinals (they have a bye in week 11). So RB Wayne Gallman could wind up being the starter for a while longer.

DEN-LV

Broncos: Starting WR Tim Patrick (hamstring) took in more practice time this week than he had in previous weeks, which is a good sign that his injured ankle is getting closer to 100% healed. The team was optimistic that rookie WR Jerry Jeudy (shoulder-questionable) would be in the lineup as of after Friday's practice.

Raiders: Rookie WR Bryan Edwards (high ankle) was 95% before last week's game, I'm told, and he took in full practices all week, so he'll see more than his 1 snap that he had against the Chargers. Veteran WR Nelson Agholor has been starting for Edwards at the "X" position.

LAC-MIA

Chargers: The team placed RB Justin Jackson (knee) on IR and signed RB Kalen Ballage off their practice squad. Ballage figures to be heavily involved in their running game again this week assuming they don't get blown out.

BUF-ARI

Bills: The team will be without starting CB Levi Wallace and veteran CB Josh Norman, who were both placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list along with TE Tyler Kroft. You can almost bet that the Cardinals will go with more "10 personnel" (4 WR sets) more than usual due to the absences of the two CBs. 2nd-year TE Dawson Knox, who has dealt with assorted injury issues this season, should see an increase in playing time with Kroft out.

Cardinals: While starting RB Kenyan Drake (ankle) was able to get in some practice time for the 3 days of practices this week, the team added RB D.J. Foster from their practice squad. Foster's addition gives the team 5 RBs on the active roster, so it's not a given that Drake will go. The team was encouraged, however, how much Drake was able to do in practice this week.

SEA-LAR

Seahawks: The team downgraded RBs Chris Carson (mid-foot sprain) and Carlos Hyde (hamstring) to OUT. RBs DeeJay Dallas (arm, wrist) and Travis Homer (knee contusion) will continue to fill in. The team continues to limit Homer's practice time, but he had more snaps than Dallas in last week's game.

CIN-PIT

Weather note: Another game could be impacted by wind (20-23 mph) and rain (99-42%) over the course of the game.

Bengals: While starting RB Joe Mixon (foot) was downgraded to out on Saturday, the team plans to get him in practice next week and they're optimistic that he'll be able to play at Washington in Week 11.

Steelers: Starting QB Ben Roethlisberger was able to get through the team's Saturday walk-through after being activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list. And if the conditions aren't too bad, he should have good success passing against the Bengals injured secondary, which will be without CBs Darius Phillips (groin-IR) and LeShaun Sims (concussion-out).

BAL-NE

Weather note: The less than ideal weather out East is expected to continue tonight with rain projected 49-100% (wind 15-20 mph) throughout the 3 hours. Use the weather.com app (hour-by-hour) for up-to-date projections before you turn your lineups in.

Ravens: Veteran RB Mark Ingram (ankle-questionable) took in a full practice for the first time since he suffered his injury in Week 6. While Friday practices prior to a Sunday game are typically light (usually not much more than an hour), it's worth noting that he's close to being able to play if he doesn't play tonight.

Patriots: 2nd-year WR Jakobi Meyers was one of the most sought after UDFA players last year and it's not a fluke that he had a breakout game (12-169, 14 targets) in Week 9. While he's considered slow for his position (4.63 at the combine), Meyers is known in scouting circles for his route running and hands. It's worth noting that since his role got bigger the past 3 games, Meyers has 30 targets, 20 receptions for 287 yards.

MIN-CHI

Bears: With starting RB David Montgomery (concussion) out for this game, the team plans on going with a RBBC with FB/RB Ryan Nall, WR/RB Cordarrelle Patterson and potentially UDFA rookie Artavis Pierce and veteran RB Lamar Miller, who is on their practice squad. Nall is first up, but there's nothing to indicate that he won't be sharing carries to a certain degree.

Veteran WR Allen Robinson (knee-questionable) had his practice time limited this week, but indications are that the team wanted to not give him his usual amount of snaps in practice since this is a new injury coming out of last week's game. So it would be surprising if he didn't play.
